Yoga from the Heart Instructor Vs. Teacher

Yoga from the Heart Jan Guinn

Jan Guinn, Studio Owner, E-RYT500,

I’ve been a dedicated yoga practitioner for many years and since my first yoga class, I knew that yoga would change my life….and so it has. In 2004, I left my career as a home health care executive to become a yoga teacher.

I began my training with YogaFit and knew I wanted more!! I completed my 200 hour teacher training with NamasteUSA in the Scaravelli style of yoga and my 500 hour training with Blue Anjou.  I am registered as an E-RYT500 with Yoga Alliance.

I was drawn to teaching yoga because I wanted to feel as though I was making a difference in people’s lives.  I had no idea what a difference people would make in my life!  When I look out into a class and see the faces of students, I can’t help but be inspired by their tenacity, their courage to try something new and their ability to bounce back from all the set-backs they’ve experienced in their lives.  I can only hope to reflect those same qualities back to them!

My classes are paced in a way that allows each individual student to feel successful. All students are welcome – from beginners to advanced – and are encouraged to work at the level that best suits their needs. We don’t move quickly from one pose to the next, providing time to breathe and establish a nice, firm foundation in each pose. My intention is to provide a safe, friendly, non-competitive environment.

Lisa Marshall, E-RYT200

I began practicing yoga during my second pregnancy in 1998. Discovering the benefits that yoga has given my body, mind and spirit, I only wish that I had started much sooner.
— lisa

As my yoga practiSince taking my first class over 10 years ago, I knew that yoga was something I'd practice the rest of my life.  ce deepened, so did my desire to share yoga with others. I opened Surya Center for Yoga in 2002, with the hopes of bringing like-minded students together to realign and reconnect with their true greatness.  My goal is to share with others what I have learned from my teachers, Desiree Rumbaugh, Ross Rayburn and all the many other teachers who have crossed my path.  I am inspired by their wisdom. I also owe gratitude to my husband and three boys for their support and encouragement.  They teach me on a daily basis and give me space to grow and share with others. Besides teaching classes at Yoga from the Heart, I enjoy teaching yoga in the corporate setting.  I have taught over the past 7 years at fabulous companies including: Hagger, Essilor, Rent-a-Center, Nissan, I2, MADD, The Container Store, Allstate Insurance, Seiplest, Michaels, Javalin, and Televista. I am an RYT, ERYT with over 500 hours of training and former owner of Surya Center for Yoga. I also teach Yoga Alliance 200 hour Teacher Trainings.

Linda Peoples, RYT

Yoga has become a very important part of my life especially since I have discovered so many tools to help with physical, emotional and stress related ailments.
— linda

My yoga journey began in 2006 when my daughter asked me to try a yoga class with her. After my first week of classes, I found not only was my physical fatigue gone but so was my mental fatigue (instead of sports or the gym, this was a practice that I could do!).  In 2010 I decided to deepen my yoga journey and completed a 200 RYT certification course.  I believe that the possibilities that yoga can bring to a person are limitless. I like to teach yoga to others for the joy of sharing and the enlightenment it brings them and me.

My teachings explore the profound effect yoga has on well-being as it relates to people living with addictions, anxiety & depression, and PTSD.
